Award winning Landscape and Garden Designers
Bunny Guinness, a Chartered Landscape Architect, studied horticulture at Reading University and following graduation went on to complete a post graduate diploma in Landscape Architecture at Birmingham City University. She was awarded a Doctorate by the University in 2009.
Bunny worked in private practice for several years before setting up her own practice in 1986. Having worked in Landscape Design for almost 50 years she has gained a wealth of experience including working on private gardens of all sizes, reclamation sites, renovation of inner city housing estates, planning appeals, sheltered housing schemes, pedestrian precincts, golf courses, farm and estate planting and public roof gardens.
In addition to her design work which is very much the core business, Bunny has been a panelist on BBC Radio 4 Gardeners’ Question Time since 1998. The questions asked cover all aspects of horticulture and gardening and as there is no forewarning of the questions prior to the recording an extensive knowledge of horticulture and experience is essential! Between 2000 and 2021 Bunny wrote a weekly column for the Telegraph and since 2021 she has written a monthly column. In addition to this she regularly answers questions for BBC Gardeners’ World magazine, BBC Gardens Illustrated and has contributed to Country Life, House and Gardens and many other magazines and newspapers. She has also presented, designed gardens for and appeared in many television programs, see ‘Media‘ for further details.
Bunny works with her daughter, Unity, who is also a qualified Landscape Architect. Unity studied at Birmingham City University completing in 2012. Unity joined the practice in 2013 having previously worked for a large international practice.
Bunny started her own YouTube channel in 2020 and puts up weekly videos featuring gardens she has designed and tips for growing and designing.
How We Work
The budget involved may be large or miniscule. The implementation of the garden may be carried out by landscape contractors or the client may prefer to do the work themselves. Whichever route is taken it can be highly successful if there is a cohesive masterplan.
In order for this to evolve efficiently it is usually recommended that an initial day is spent with the client(s) on the project design together with Bunny and Unity so a wide range of ideas and solutions can be worked through while on the site in question. Most clients find this extremely useful as the process allows full input from them and helps illustrates exactly what may be possible. This initial day consultation may be used either to solve a particular problem, as a stand alone service to produce a masterplan for the site or to ‘kick start’ a large project. See ‘Day Consultation’ for further information and an example of a ‘day’ project.
